Moving Checklist
Moving is known to be one of the most stressful times in life, and having a moving checklist can help you feel in control of what seems like an overwhelming process. Our goal is to help make your move Simple and it starts with planning. It is important to start preparing for move day as early as possible, and we recommend at least 2 months prior. Simple Moving Labor has been moving families for over a decade, and we’ve picked up some great knowledge along the way.
We’ve created this easy to follow Moving Checklist that will help simplify your move
2 Months Before
- Sort and purge. Decide what items you will keep and what items you will get rid of in all the rooms of your home. Think about all the items that will require extra and special packing. Contact renter or home insurance for questions regarding coverage.
- Contact moving companies like SML for quotes. Request a copy of signed contract.
- Create a folder or binder to keep all of your moving paperwork. include this checklist to keep track of everything during the move
6 Weeks Before
- Gather what your budget is for the move. Make travel arrangements for the move.
- Plan what will go where in your new home. Have a floor plan planned out where your furniture will be placed and color code each room to facility where items will go.
- Arrange school records for your children to be transferred to their new school.
1 Month Before
- Get packing supplies (boxes, tape, wrapping paper, labels, bubble wrap), and start packing.
- Contact utility companies to disconnect services the day after you move and have the new services in your home the day before you arrive.
A Week Before
- Finish Packing
- Confirm travel arrangements, moving and truck reservations
Moving Day
- Pack your “Open First Boxes
- Make sure to confirm all moving details and have inventory sheet handy to keep track of all of your belongings during the move.
- If the staff did a good job, tips are welcome and refreshments are always appreciated
